Vengeance Road

I devoured this book! Why? Because it is paced extremely well and I actually cared about what happened in the end.

From the first word this book pulls you in as it describes the tragic scene of the murder of the main character’s father. The lead, Kate, is a hard character to get close to, but I guess that remains true to her tough gun-slinging cowgirl exterior. We meet her in a time of great distress and her thoughts tend towards narrow and feverish in her quest to avenge her father, hence the title.

The few supporting characters were likable and fit in with the landscape of the book. Jesse and Will were immediate favorites of mine as Kate fell into their unlikely hands. They felt like brothers and that is sometimes a hard relationship to portray (or maybe I am just picky because I have four of them!). Even the memories shared of characters such as her mother and father seem sincere.

My one complaint is more a matter of personal preference than true dislike and that is I have a hard time when a book is written in a strong and obvious character voice. Kate and her western style slang fits with the genre, the setting, and the character, but in a cartoon kind of way. There is also a little drama with the whole mom situation that made me sit back and think that the author had gone a bit too far, but overall these two quick complaints barely made a dent in my reading experience. I’m horrible in that, unless you are Mark Twain, I’m not going to like a narrator with a different way of talking.

I recommend this quick read to all those who love a strong female lead whose not afraid to shoot a man or two to get her way!

I Solemnly Swear I Am Dedicated to Books

Reading has been my life for eleven years and I plan to keep it that way. It has been my escape, my entertainment, and my doorway to the world. Our minds are vulnerable  when we read and let others fill our brains with thoughts and emotions, but I can imagine no better  way to fill my time. Books are my secret to every success and I am hoping to share it all with you! Thank You

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce Review

I am going to start off with the warning that Tamora Pierce is the writer I wish I could be which means this will not be an unbiased review. Because she is perfect and everything that comes from her is perfect. That being said, some works of hers are more perfect than others. Like this one and I will proceed to tell you why in such a manner that I expect you to have purchased the book by the end of it so I'll just leave an amazon link here: https://amzn.to/2wD9hFq Arram is the young and awkwardly brilliant main character of the book. He has stumbled his way into a series of incidents at his mage school that indicate powers that he is not completely comfortable with having and is consequently thrown in with two other prematurely successful students, Ozorne and Varice. My sister once described this book to me as Harry Potter if Malfoy had successfully befriended Harry. While amusing, this book is really so much more. I have never read a book where I have gotten to know the...

The Poets Laureate Anthology

I hope at least one person who stumbles across this blog shares my love for poetry. This book is a perfect collection of the greatest works of the American Poet Laureates from 1937-2010. Yes, it is full of brilliance and I can always find a poem to fit my mood. P.S. On a shallow side note, the cover looks cute on any shelf!
